Momentos e assuntos distintos. Alguns quilômetros separam os britânicos em epígrafe. Há, no entanto, talvez alguns pontos de contato a respeito daquilo que a realidade objetivamente é.
É notória a afirmação de M. Tatcher segundo a qual não existiria “sociedade”, mas apenas “indivíduos”. A afirmação parece derivar da passagem de entrevista:
They are casting their problems at society. And, you know, there’s no such thing as society. There are individual men and women and there are families. And no government can do anything except through people, and people must look after themselves first. It is our duty to look after ourselves and then, also, to look after our neighbours. – in an interview in Women’s Own in 1987, The Guardian.
Mas talvez não seja tão notória a afirmação semelhante feita por Keynes em 1934 que, aliás, não abriu mão do individualismo econômico tomado como virtude, como necessidade a ser preservada:
The nation is simply a collection of individuals… The nation is the citizens who comprise it — no more and no less. (Keynes, 2013, p. 335-336)
